Your Planning Year
A structured programme of four named meetings across the year — each with a defined purpose, a clear agenda and written outcomes provided afterwards.
Exclusive to my clients. Personal to my practice.
Arrange an Introductory ConversationMost financial advisers offer an annual review. A single meeting, once a year, covering everything at once.
That is not how good financial planning works.
The decisions that shape a family's financial future — retirement timing, investment structure, protection, estate planning — are too important and too interconnected to be addressed adequately in a single conversation. Each deserves focused time and proper preparation.
The Annual Client Programme divides that work into four quarterly meetings, each with its own focus, its own agenda and its own written summary. Together they form a complete cycle of structured oversight — one that repeats and deepens each year as your circumstances evolve.
"Financial plans rarely fail because of investment performance. They fail because the objective was unclear or quietly changed over time."
Each meeting in the programme has a defined purpose. The four quarters build on one another: goals and direction set the foundation; protection ensures it is secure; estate planning ensures it reaches the right people; investment review ensures the capital is working as it should.
At the end of every meeting, you receive a written summary of what was discussed, agreed actions and confirmed next steps.
Goals and Direction
To ensure your financial plan reflects what matters most to you, and remains aligned with your priorities, timeframes and evolving circumstances.
Financial plans rarely fail because of investment performance. They fail because the objective was unclear, or quietly changed over time. This meeting ensures every decision that follows remains anchored to your life — not just your portfolio.
This meeting covers
- Any changes in personal or professional circumstances since the last review
- Clarifying your core objectives and life priorities — short, medium and long-term
- A high-level review of your overall financial position and direction of travel
- Retirement and financial independence planning — current trajectory versus desired outcome
- Family and lifestyle planning — education, property and major life events on the horizon
- Identifying any disconnects between your current arrangements and your objectives
- Agreeing the key areas of focus and sequencing of decisions for the year ahead
This meeting sets the agenda for everything that follows across the year.
Protection and Resilience
To ensure your financial plan remains secure, adaptable and able to withstand unexpected events — without disrupting your long-term objectives.
Unexpected events do not give advance warning. Without the right structures in place, even a strong financial position can quickly become difficult to access or sustain at exactly the moment it is needed most.
This meeting covers
- How your current plan responds to unexpected events, and any areas of vulnerability
- Cash flow and emergency reserves — adequacy, accessibility and jurisdictional flexibility
- A review of existing protection arrangements: life assurance, income protection and critical illness cover
- Whether policies are structured to respond efficiently across jurisdictions and beneficiary nominations are correct
- Financial security for dependants in the event of death or incapacity
- Stress testing the plan under key scenarios — loss of income, serious illness, market disruption
- Ensuring protection arrangements are consistent with your wider estate structure
The aim is to ensure your plan remains stable and decisions are never forced under pressure.
Estate Planning and Succession
To ensure your estate planning arrangements are clear, coordinated and structured to provide certainty for your family across jurisdictions.
In a cross-border environment, the absence of clear planning can lead to delays, uncertainty and assets becoming temporarily inaccessible. This review ensures your wishes are carried out efficiently, with minimal burden on those you leave behind.
This meeting covers
- How your estate is currently structured and the clarity of outcomes in the event of death or incapacity
- A review of existing wills, their suitability and guardianship arrangements for minor children
- Beneficiary nominations across pensions, policies and investments — consistency and intended outcomes
- How assets are held across jurisdictions and ease of access for your family
- Inheritance tax exposure and the interaction of residency and asset location
- Whether your intentions are clearly understood by your family and practical steps to reduce future burden
- Coordination with legal and tax professionals where specialist input is required
Where will preparation or UAE-specific estate documentation is required, this can be assisted through Great British Wills.
Investment Progress
To review your investment strategy, ensuring it remains aligned with your objectives, appropriately balanced and positioned for long-term outcomes.
Investment decisions made in isolation, or in reaction to market conditions, can undermine long-term outcomes. This review keeps your portfolio aligned with your plan — rather than allowing short-term noise to dictate long-term decisions.
This meeting covers
- Portfolio structure, allocation and performance reviewed in the context of your plan — not market benchmarks in isolation
- Whether the portfolio remains aligned with your goals, time horizon and capacity for risk
- Asset allocation across regions and asset classes — concentration risks and currency considerations
- Costs and efficiency: platform, fund and transaction costs reviewed relative to value delivered
- Any rebalancing required to maintain alignment with your objectives
- Integration with cash flow, protection and estate planning
- Preparation for the next cycle, beginning again with Q1: Goals and Direction
The investment review does not stand alone. It is the final piece of a complete planning year.
After Every Meeting
Every meeting in the programme is followed by a written summary.
That summary sets out what was discussed, what was agreed and what happens next — with clear action points and responsibilities for each party.
Nothing is left to memory or assumption. You always have a clear record of where your plan stands and what is in motion.
